Somatic Symptom Disorder: When the Body Speaks the Mind’s Pain
Experts may reach a consensus that a person has somatic symptom disorder when the individual focuses too much on some physical discomfort such as pain, weakness of shortness of breath. The person then has too many thoughts, feelings and behaviours related to the symptom. The effectiveness of psychotherapies on reducing anxiety, stress and phobia is well established. In particular, cognitive behaviour therapy and clinical hypnotherapy have shown the most encouraging results.
